Lily joined the Building Full Lives program with an open mind about the things she would like to do and explore. She is self aware, in that she knows she wants to work on budgeting as it relates to shopping and prioritizing her wants and needs. However, she is also very open to seeing what her community has to offer.
One of the things Lily wanted to learn about was how to make a marble cake. Through her experience, Lily experienced finding a recipe, compiling an ingredients list, priced the ingredients and ultimately purchased the ingredients. Through this process, Lily learned that to make a marble birthday cake, she would need 2 case mixes instead of just 1, as originally thought.
From there, Lily wanted to expand on her learning and identified she wanted to learn all of the steps to make a strawberry shortcake. Lily researched local strawberry farms to find fresh strawberries. However, quickly learned that the strawberries were sold out. Lily had to adapt and go to the store to buy the strawberries. Lily then went through the process of safely making strawberry shortcake.

In addition to learning some new skills, Lily was able to work on how to handle disappointments. In both examples, Lily experienced some disappointment, however with staff support and was able to come up with techniques to handle the disappointment without ruining her experience as a whole.
Lily is excited to continue to learn new things, both tasks and soft skills as she continues to evolve in the Building Full Lives program at Connections.
